Cigar Review: A.Turrent Triple Play

A. Turrent Triple Play Belicoso

Wrapper: San Andreas Morron
Binder: Blackened Connecticut Broadleaf
Filler: Nicaraguan Maduro, San Andreas Maduro & Honduras Maduro

This month Havana Sensation has the pleasure of offering the number 14 pick on Cigar Aficionado's top 25 cigars of last year. The A. Turrent Triple Play Belicoso, a new cigar on the market, was introduced at the IPCPR this past year.  Created at the La Flor de Copan factory in Honduras by Alejandro Turrent, this cigar created a lot of favorable press for Altadis this year at the convention. Touted as a puro maduro due to the fact that it is blended, wrapper, binder and filler solely of fine maduro tobaccos, this cigar packs quite a bit of flavor as a fine full bodied smoke.
Upon initial looks this cigar is relatively deceptive, it’s beautiful tan wrapper does not initially look like you would expect a triple maduro smoke to look, instead this cigar is wrapped in what can only be described as an ultra premium wrapper, hand selected for its uniformity and beautiful shade throughout with only slight veins none of which bulge or distract from the smoothness of the cigar.
The foot of the cigar has a wonderful pre-light aroma of cocoa and coffee with a slight hint of damp earth.  Due to the dense packing this cigar takes a bit of work to light thoroughly but once it is lit, it produces large amounts of creamy smoke. The initial draws are smooth and mild, spicy, yet at the same time, not peppery. As the ash gets about an inch long, the cigar reveals slightly the earthy component previously noted. Around the halfway point, the coffee becomes a bit stronger and is joined by a woody compliment. In the last third, a little of the peppery spice one loves to enjoy in a triple maduro transitioning from a medium, to a full bodied smoke which emotes a fine sense of completion to a relaxing hour and a half.
The Triple play like it's namesake's reference, knocks it out of the park, a smoke which I would suggest to anyone looking for a medium bodied cigar or any fan of maduro tobacco, and definitely worthy of Havana Sensation’s “Cigar of the Month.” In honor of this title, Ed has graciously offered these smokes at a buy three get one free deal. Stop by this month and get them while they last! And as I am a relatively new to the art of reviewing a cigar, stop by and enjoy one with me and we can discuss the flavors. Cause no matter how good a smoke is what defines it is the company you enjoy while partaking.
