Raccoons with No Tails?

I've talked about them before but to remind everyone, we have a raccoon family, possible mafia ring, that takes homage behind the shop. There is a seriously good pizza shop in our complex (NYPD Pizza) so I don't blame them. Don't worry though they are very people friendly and mind their own business. Anyways, what I'm trying to get at is one of the coons is missing it's tail. It doesn't look like it was lost in a covert dumpster mission or anything either. It's as if this little guy was just born without a tail. My concern here is that the raccoons might not just be dining on left over strombolis but eating hair dye or nail polish for dessert causing these awful birth defects. As I am no animal expert, and certainly have never had my nails done or my bald head in a hair salon, I can only assume the worst for the raccoon mafia.
